Sales General Manager

Location:           Suffolk

Salary:              Circa £65k – £85k Base + Bonus + Package

Role Overview

The Sales General Manager will be responsible for overseeing the entire UK-wide distribution business, driving growth and sales, operational efficiencies, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be instrumental in implementing a robust strategic sales and growth strategy while ensuring that the business remains a quality-focused and customer-centric organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong leadership to the management team, ensuring alignment with the company’s vision, values, and strategic goals.
  • Take a hands on approach to growth and sales.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring the smooth running of the UK-wide distribution network, including logistics, warehousing, and supply chain management.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation, and driving operational efficiencies across all areas of the business.
  • Develop and implement a robust strategic sales and growth plan, aimed at expanding market share, enhancing profitability, and driving long-term business success.
  • Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to identify new business opportunities, target markets, and customer segments.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activities to ensure the company remains competitive and responsive to industry changes.
  • Drive operational excellence by implementing processes and systems that enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve overall business performance.
  • Utilise data and analytics to make informed decisions that optimise the efficiency and effectiveness of the distribution network.
  • Ensure the company’s resources are allocated effectively, maintaining a high level of service delivery across all regions.
  • Maintain the companies commitment to quality and customer satisfaction by ensuring all products and services meet the highest standards.
  • Work closely with the customer service and support teams to resolve issues, improve response times, and enhance the overall customer experience.
  • Implement quality management practices that ensure continuous improvement and compliance with industry regulations and standards.

Experience 

  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, ensuring the right talent is in place to support the company’s growth and operational goals.
  • Experience of growth and sales leadership, hands-on examples of originating opportunities and adopting a new business approach to business management  leadership.
  • Lead by example, setting high standards for ethical behavior, integrity, and performance.
  • Proven experience in a senior general management role within a UK-wide distribution or logistics business.
  • Strong track record of successfully managing large-scale operations, with a focus on efficiency, process improvement, and cost management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams to achieve high levels of performance.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic sales and growth plans that drive business success.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to analyse market trends, identify opportunities, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to balance strategic vision with practical execution, ensuring plans are effectively implemented and deliver results.
  • In-depth understanding of supply chain management, logistics, and distribution processes.
  • Proven ability to drive operational efficiencies, implement process improvements, and optimise resource allocation.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers, partners, and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or a related field
  • Relevant professional certifications in management, logistics, or operations (e.g., CILT, APICS) are advantageous.
